Like almost every other state, New York requires all drivers to carry minimum amounts of liability insurance to cover the cost of serious car accidents that result in injury and/or property damage. While policyholders might be able to purchase additional coverage, failure to carry the mandated minimum amount of insurance may result in suspension of your driver’s license and your car’s registration.

New York’s minimum car insurance requirements include:

• A per accident limit of $10,000 for property damage.
