Bronx NY Attorney Secures $1.8 Million Settlement for Bus Accident Victim

Bronx, N.Y. accident attorney Zachary K. Giampa of Giampa Law recently secured a $1.8 million settlement for a bus passenger injured in an intersection accident involving a New York City Transit bus and a private vehicle.

"This settlement represents years of hard work on behalf of my client, who sustained a serious, life-changing injury in a bus accident," Giampa said. "Justice was finally served."

Attorney Giampa negotiated the settlement on behalf of his client in a case preparing to go to trial in Queens County, New York. The settlement was reached after the fifth day of jury selection. (Case Number 9267/2012 Queens County, N.Y.)

The injured party was a student enrolled in an Associate's Degree program for business administration at the time of her accident, Giampa said. Initially, doctors examining the injured woman downplayed her injuries, but they ultimately proved to be severe. She needed two surgeries to address her spinal cord injuries.

"The biggest obstacle to overcome was her initial examinations and early treatment, which seemed to indicate that the injuries were minimal," Giampa said. "Then doctors thought the pain was coming from the L4, L5 (discs in her spine), so the doctors performed fusion surgery" in in that area of her spine. "Instead, the pain was coming from her sacroiliac joint, which was where she had the second surgery."

Surprisingly, Giampa's client "actually finished her (Associate's) program on time but she was unable to acquire a job afterwards due to her injuries," he said. Giampa added that the settlement offer negotiated for his client will provide for future lost earnings and other accident-related expenses.

"Her accident was completely life changing," Giampa said.
